Audio Aero

SoundStage!
"2001 Reviewers Choice Award" - Digital Players (CD/SACD/DVD-A)

(Regarding the 24/192 Capitole and the original Capitole CD Player)

"If you think digital, particularly CD, sounds dry and sterile, then listen to these players. They are as smooth, sultry and sweet as the finest analog and, quite simply, two of the best CD players I’ve heard. In fact, CD players like this don’t even have me wanting for DVD-A and SACD."

Audio Aero in General

  • The Stereo Times - Showstoppers - Stereophile’s Home Entertainment 2001 show (more...)

"Audio Aero of France was conspicuous by its presence in a few of the exhibit rooms. Their Prima Series CD player features a 24/192 DAC with subminiature tube output for $1,695 USD. In gloss black with gold-plated knobs and accents, it’s a real eye-catcher. The company also makes a separate DAC for $3,840, and a gorgeous 50 wpc, class-A stereo tube amplifier priced at $8,400. The gear sounds as good as it looks."

Audio Aero Capitole 24/192 CD Player

  • EnjoytheMusic.com - 2003 Montreal Show Report (more...)

StudioLAB Reference emailed me in advance; inviting me to hear their new flagship Revelation speaker built around a 1.1" Revelator tweeter and a pair of 7" Revelator Woofers with externally mounted crossovers and premium parts and construction. The thick walls and braced cabinet conceal compartments filled with a mixture of lead shot and sand, giving the speakers a weight of 170 lbs each. With an Audio Aero Capitole CD front end and Swiss made Orpheus 150-watt monoblocks, there was very nice music in this room, too. The finish on the speakers appeared to be a deep blue Imron-like color, and attached to the cable connectors was a Foundation Research NL-1 filter, looking a little awkward, but presumably making a significant contribution. Coming in at $16,000 CN, this is far above their number one selling model, and my personal pick a few years back, the Reference One at $1,100/pr.

"The Audio Aero Capitole CD player was mentioned as an outstanding example of upgrading regular CD reproduction by a technique they call resampling which reportedly eliminates the possible negative effects of increased jitter. A visit to their exhibit revealed a very interesting product that appeared to do as claimed. My interest sparked the company's response that Dick Olsher got to them before I did. Hopefully he will send it on to me after he is finished."

"The rest of the system consisted of the Octave Jubilee preamplifier, an Audio Aero Capitole Mk II CD player, and the new Audio Physic Strada mono amplifiers. The latter produces an impressive 800W into a 2-ohm load. The Kronos-based system produced the most dynamic sound heard so far at the show."

"Audio Aero's newly redesigned Capitole 24/192 CD player debuted in Montreal. In addition to many internal upgrades, the player's analog volume control is now remote controlled."

"Something old, something new. Distributor Globe A/V used a pair of Audio Aero Prestige mono amps ($20,000/pair) to drive a pair of reconditioned Quad ESL 57 speakers. When asked the price of the Quad speakers, Globe A/V's Matt Brazeau replied, "How much you got?" Something tells us he was turning down offers left and right."

  • SoundStage! ShowStoppers, High End 2001 Frankfurt, Germany (more...)

"On top of Audio Aero's Capitole 24/192 CD player the company prominently displayed a quote from Doug Schneider's SoundStage! review of the unit: "One of the best CD players I've heard. In fact, CD players like this don't even have me wanting for DVD-A and SACD.

While every word Doug wrote was true, in a way he now regrets them because Audio Aero gave a first glimpse of their new Prestige A/V player, which is supposed to be available in December. It supports multichannel SACD, DVD-V, CD, CD-R, CD-RW and CD-V, and it also has Dolby Digital and DTS decoders built in. Reportedly it will have a volume control, so all you have to do is connect the player directly to the amplifiers! It's hard to ask for much more. The price is estimated at $8000 USD, and you can be assured Doug wants it for review."

  • EnjoytheMusic.com - Montreal Audio Show, Son et Image 2001 (more...)

"Audio Aero's Capitole CD player was everywhere at the Show, on duty in no less than 5 rooms. The Capitole was one of the few really impressive CD players at the show, even more so than any of the SACD demonstrations, filling rooms with some of the most involving, detailed and high resolution sound this side of the Plains of Abraham."

"While listening to a Miles Davis/John Coltrane disc, 50 years of time melted away, and they were in the room."

"Marc Mickelson's favorite system at the entire show included Verity Audio Parsifal speakers driven by Tenor Audio 75 WI OTL integrated amps with the oft-heard-in-Montreal Audio Aero 24/192 CD player as source. "Sweet, inviting, involving, as good as it gets," was Marc's terse assessment."

(Regarding the 24/192 Capitole CD Player)

"Uncanny ease along with an amazing sense of liquidity"; "midrange and high frequencies are simply marvelous"; bass is "tighter and better controlled" than with the original Capitole CD player."

(Regarding the original Capitole CD Player)

"I reviewed the Audio Aero Capitole CD player in June of last year. Anyone who knows me or has read the review knows how much I think of the player. Even today, as more and more new-format digital players hit the market, I still turn to the Capitole as a point of reference."

Audio Aero Prima 24/192 CD Player

  • The Star Online - Audiofile (more...)

"Would I spend over five grand on such a machine as the Prima? Well, if I were looking for a CD player for a mid-end hi-fi system, this would certainly appear on my short-list. It’s certainly a few notches ahead of some other European models (hmmm, sounds tasty put this way!) I’ve heard over the past couple of years."

Audio Aero Capitole Amplifier

  • Montreal Audio Show, Son et Image 2001 (more...)

(Powering the Meadow Song Labs Mt. Everest speaker)

"The Mt. Everests sounded very spacious driven by Audio Aero tubed electronics. Nordost cabling and a solid-state amp to drive speakers' woofers rounded out the system."

  • SoundStage! - April, 1999 - Marc Mickelson (more...)

"I first heard the Capitole at CES ’99 playing music low over a pair of Leedh Nazca speakers, also a French product. The sound was terrific. I can say that I am even more impressed with the amp now because I’ve heard it in my system with a range of equipment and music. In fact, I think I’ve mentioned more recordings in this review than in any other I’ve written -- which is a testament to the sound the Audio Aero Capitole produces. If you’re in the market for a tube amp in the $8000 price range, make sure you hear this one."
